Pettopia runs this online shop and website, including all related information, content, features, tools, products and services (the “Services”). This website runs on Shopify. This privacy policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what say you have over it. For the purposes of data protection law we are the controller.

What data we process

Contact details — your name, billing address, delivery address, phone number and email address.
Payment details — information about your payment and its confirmation. Your full card or account number goes to the payment provider, not to us.
Account details — username, password and preferences, if you create an account.
Order details — what you view, add to your basket, order, return or cancel.
Messages — what you write to us, for example with a question or a return.
Device data — your IP address, browser, device and network connection.
Usage data — how and when you use our website.

Where this data comes from

Directly from you, when you order, create an account or write to us.
Automatically through the website, from your device and through cookies and similar techniques.
From our service providers, who process data on our behalf.

What we use your data for

Fulfilling your order — processing payment, shipping, handling returns and refunds, managing your account and keeping you informed. Basis: performance of the contract.
Staying in touch — answering your questions and helping you. Basis: performance of the contract or our legitimate interest.
Marketing — emailing you about our products, if you signed up for that. Basis: your consent. You can unsubscribe in every email.
Security and fraud prevention — detecting and preventing misuse and fraud. Basis: our legitimate interest.
Legal obligations — such as the tax requirement to keep invoices. Basis: legal obligation.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We share it only where necessary:

With Shopify, which hosts this shop, and with other service providers acting on our behalf, such as the payment provider and the carrier.
With our suppliers, as far as needed to deliver your order to you. We pass on your name and delivery address, and no more than that.
Where we are legally required to, or to protect our rights or those of others.

Relationship with Shopify

These Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal data about your use of the Services in order to provide and improve them. Information you submit on this website is transmitted to Shopify and to third parties that may be located outside your own country. Our website may link to websites run by others. We are not responsible for their privacy practices or their security. Please read their own terms there.

Children

Our shop is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.

Security and retention

No security is perfect, so please do not send us sensitive information through unsecured channels. How long we keep your data depends on what we need it for: order and invoice records are kept for seven years, because Dutch tax law requires it. Data we no longer need, we delete.

Your rights

You have the right to:

access your data;
have your data corrected if it is wrong;
have your data deleted;
receive a copy of your data or have it transferred;
object to certain processing, or have it restricted;
withdraw your consent, for example for our emails. That does not affect what we lawfully did beforehand.

Email pettopianl@gmail.com to exercise any of these rights. We respond within the statutory period. To prevent misuse we may ask you to identify yourself. You are never disadvantaged for using your rights.

Complaints

Unhappy with how we handle your data? Tell us first and we will put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Dutch supervisory authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. If you live in another EU country, you can go to your own country's authority.

Transfers outside the EEA

Your data may be stored or processed outside the country you live in. Where data goes outside the European Economic Area, we rely on a recognised transfer mechanism, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, unless the country offers an adequate level of protection.

Changes

We may update this privacy policy, for example if our practices or the rules change. The new version goes on this page with a new date at the top.
